Aubade — Support

macOS and iOS

How do I connect my X account?

Aubade posts through your own (free to create) X developer app, so you keep control and your own API allowance. In the X Developer Portal, open your app's User authentication settings, set permissions to Read and write, type to Native App, and the callback URI to aubade://callback. Copy the OAuth 2.0 Client ID into Aubade's Settings and tap Connect X account. The steps are also listed inside the app.

How do I post to Bluesky or Mastodon too?

Open Settings → Post to. For Bluesky, enter your handle and an app password (make one in Bluesky under Settings → Privacy and security → App passwords — not your account password). For Mastodon, enter your server and an access token: on your server, go to Preferences → Development → New application, give it the write:statuses and write:media scopes, save, and copy “Your access token”. Then choose where new drafts go; each draft also has Post to chips in the editor.

Something went to X but not to Bluesky or Mastodon.

Aubade posts to X first, then to the others. If one of them fails, whatever it didn't get stays in Drafts, set to post only there — publish it again and it finishes, continuing a thread if part of it went out. If X itself fails before anything is posted, nothing goes anywhere. Each network's character limit is checked before you publish: Bluesky allows 300 characters and counts links in full; Mastodon uses your server's limit. Bluesky has no polls.

Why does an @mention look wrong on Mastodon?

Your @mentions are written for X. On Mastodon, @name links to an account called name on your own server if one exists; on Bluesky it's plain text. Edit the draft per network if a mention matters.

Does posting cost anything?

Aubade itself doesn't charge for posting. X bills API usage to your developer account under its pay-per-use pricing — currently around one and a half cents per post, more if the post contains a link. Check your rates in the X Developer Portal.

Why can't the app show me my timeline?

By design. Aubade is a write-only client: it can publish, and it can show your own name and avatar for the preview — nothing else. If you want to scroll, it can't help you, which is the point.

Dictation isn't working.

Dictation needs Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions (Settings → Privacy). It runs on-device; the first use may download a language model. If your language isn't supported on-device, the Dictate button will say so.

Can I undo a post?

For a moment. After you confirm, a post waits 20 seconds with Undo and Send now; change the delay or turn it off in Settings → Composer. On iPhone, leaving the app sends it straight away. Once it's out, it's out — delete it on the network itself.

How do I quote a post?

Paste the post's link into your first post and Aubade offers to quote it, or share a post into Aubade from the X app or any other. The preview shows a placeholder card: Aubade never loads the quoted post. On Bluesky and Mastodon a quote goes out as the link.

Where's the Schedule button?

On the Mac it's always there: the Mac app publishes scheduled drafts itself (it keeps running in the menu bar), and Queue for dawn sends at the hour you pick. On iPhone, scheduling needs the advanced Worker mode — a small personal backend you host yourself — because a phone can't be relied on to wake at the right time. The Worker schedules X posts only.

I don't see Shorten to Fit or the alt-text Suggest button.

They use Apple Intelligence on your device and appear only where it's available and turned on (iOS 26 or macOS 26 on a supported device). Nothing is sent anywhere: the suggestion is made on-device, and it changes your draft only if you choose to use it.

A thread partly failed. What happened?

Posts in a thread are published in order. If one fails, Aubade stops, tells you exactly which posts made it out, and links to them — nothing is retried silently and nothing is posted twice.

Where are my drafts?

On your device, as plain files. On iPhone you can turn on Settings → Sync drafts with iCloud to keep them in your own iCloud Drive across your iPhone and iPad (Mac sync is coming). Deleting the app deletes the local copy; nothing is stored on any server of ours.

Still stuck?

Email christopher@sivori.xyz with what you tried and what happened, and include the app version from Settings. See also the privacy policy.
